Anja Fahlenkamp at White House for President's Interfaith Challenge

September 23, 2016

Faiths In Tune's Director Anja Fahlenkamp was invited for the second time to visit the White House as part of the President's Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge, and featured as a speaker in an expert panel at the Challenge's sixth annual national gathering at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC.

In September 2016, Anja Fahlenkamp participated in the International Higher Education Interfaith Leadership Forum (IHEILF) and the President's Challenge for the second time, visiting the White House and attending a number of high level expert meetings at Georgetown University and Gallaudet University, and gave a presentation and participated in an expert panel on the role of music and arts in peacebuilding on and off campus.

Anja Fahlenkamp had already been invited by Georgetown University, the White House Office of Faith-based and Neighborhood Partnerships and the US Department of Education to attend the important event and expert meetings at the White House in the previous year's gathering in September 2015. At the time, the Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs at Georgetown University had decided to internationalize the President's Challenge and for this purpose initiated the International Higher Education Interfaith Leadership Forum (IHEILF) and invited a selected group of international experts to add their expertise to the exchanges of knowledge and experience taking place at the annual national gathering, which in 2015 was hosted at Howard University.

The President’s Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge is an initiative of the White House with support from the Department of Education, the State Department, the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Corporation for National and Community Service. President Obama established the Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge, which brings together students and educators, colleges and universities, faith and community organizations, and others to strengthen campuses and communities through the power of faith and service.
